Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Many people are often put off by Austen because they think that it will be too difficult because she wrote in the 1800's. Yes, there are some language differences but not enough to make it impossible to understand for the average person. It does take a little bit more effort than the average contemporary novel, but it's well worth your time. Think of it as a precursor to the romance novels of today, but significantly more well-written. For those who love romance it is definitely a good in to more classic literature.
