New Release: Presidential Leak

If you googled President Jimmy Carter this morning you might have gotten a glimpse of his upcoming book on google.  Due to some communication glitch, the preface and first 50 pages of Jimmy Carter's new book, White House Diary.  The book which is to be formally released on September 20, 2010 had been embargoed from any sort of information leak as is done with many political books by its publisher Farrar, Straus and Giroux.  According to the Washington Post's article Embargoed Carter Book lands on briefly on Google Books, information leaks on upcoming political books of interest have become a problem for publishers with the media.  Earlier this year another such leak occurred with Laura Bush's memoir, Spoken from the Heart, which was also embargoed.  Though the book was scheduled for release on May 4, the Times was able to run a synopsis of the book a week prior on April 27.  Bookstores have to sign agreements to agree not sell their merchandise prior to the release date.  The media, however, has made no such agreement with publishers and is always looking for the newer story.

The College Question

In this day and age, uncertainty glooms around the future.  It is being said repeatedly that the job market facing recent graduates is in the worst condition anyone has ever seen (though this being refuting occasionally as companies hire younger to replace older employees higher salaries).  Everyday people question the value of degrees they spent years earning but still day after day even more determined parents attempt to get their children into even better colleges in an effort to secure their futures.  Well for such concerned parents or graduates, the Washington Post has provided its readers with a list of books which address the value of a college education today and the many problems in the higher education.  An interesting read for anyone who has been to college or even is just considering this option.

Dirty Sexy Politics by Meghan McCain

Dirty Sexy Politics.  Now whose attention wouldn't this title grab.  Not to anyone's surprise I found this review while pondering the pages of the Washington Post. (Does anybody there think of anything else?)  If you are interest, which any normal person should be, take a look at the review they write.  It gives just enough tidbits to give the reader a sneak peek of the direction the book is going to take without sharing all the juicy details.  Even without the intrigue, the honest, blunt perspective of the daughter of a failed Presidential candidate is not one frequently offered and I would love to hear what she has to say.  I think it may just surprise us all.

The Frozen Rabbi by Steve Stern

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/21/AR2010062104405.html

In an effort to branch out from only cruising around The New York Times and to expand my recommendations, I decided to skim The Washington Post today.  Luckily I did to because I stumbled across this entertaining review of an even more entertaining sounding book.  Just the title stands out, it's definitely one I've never heard before.  It sounds like a great fresh take on the usual serious treatment of faith in America with a twist of comedy to top it all off.  Looking for a laugh this summer, try picking this one up. I think I will.
