The book tells of Brinker's 30 year mission to change the way breast cancer is viewed and treated because of the traumatic experience her sister Suzy went through prior to her death from breast cancer in 1980 after a three year struggle with the disease. Brinker's work and achievement was recognized by President Obama in 2009 when she was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
